Colour Studies Assignment 2- Landscape

The season time that I was given was 'Autumn', this at first sounded like an easy subject to photograph however when I thought about it more in depth, it is just the same as photographing any other time of the year really.
My initial thoughts were to photograph such things as leaves, trees, orange sunset etc. However I then started to think more about what actually happens during autumn instead of what people think autumn 'looks' like.

As soon as I could, I grabbed my camera and went on a walk around my local area which is in the heart of Cheshire. There were hundreds of trees, many thousands of leaves scattered around and other autumnal matters however, after taking some photographs I realised that this is not what I think autumn is about. I then went away and thought harder. Below are some images from that walk.

There is an overall idea that the colour associated with autumn is orange, this is a valid assumption in my eyes because this is the colour that first comes to mind for me when I think of autumn. I wanted to try and incorporate this colour into my images some how. I then brainstormed some ideas about what I could photograph.

Finally I have cone up with a good idea for my final photograph, this involved me researching into the idea 'Halloween'. From this I decided to focus on one part of Halloween, one of the events that Autumn has to offer, this specific thing is the pumpkin. I have found a farm which grows and sells pumpkins and have decided to go down to the farm and see what I can photograph. Below are  some research examples of what I intend to photograph.

Research Images

The thing that I really like about the above image is the colour that flows through the image, it really gives the autumnal feel to the photograph. I also like the large depth of field because you can see, in focus, the very vibrant sunset as well as the main subject which are the pumpkins.

I will keep my blog up to date with the photographs that I take at the pumpkin farm...

The below image is one that I took this time last year, although it isn't relevant for this project so much I have decided to blog it because I think that it shows 'Autumn' through the colour and setting of the photograph.

Colour Studies Assignment 1- Sensually Red

The following images show my take on the word and colour swatch that I was given. The word that I was given was 'sensual', from this the first thing that came into my head was to produce a number of "raunchy" and quite intimate photographs of a semi-nood model. I decided to act on my first instinct and set about finding a willing model. The colour swatch I received included 6 different shades of pinks and reds which i decided to incorporate into the photographs through the lighting of the model. To achieve the red light, I painted a piece of clear plastic with some paint which was a similar colour to that on the colour swatch and placed it over a small lamp.

To try and get a woman's point of view on how one would hold themselves during a sensual moment, I asked the model what sort of stances do you find stereotypically 'sensual' and the above image shows the stance that she took too herself.

During the shoot i decided to keep the direction of light onto the model the same to give a sense of consistency throughout the photographs.

I purposely kept the brightness of the photograph quite low to enhance the sexual feel of the photographs.

I decided to not edit any of the photographs because I felt that if I was to mess with the brightness or levels of the photographs then this make take something from them.

I am happy with the way that the photographs have turned out and and particularly pleased with the effectiveness of the red light which I made.
